CAUTION: The n3 wireless USB adapter is a high powered device which will not work with some USB hubs that give off a lower output power from their USB ports. It is recommended to connect this device directly to your Macintosh computer. The device also cannot be used with USB ports on Mac keyboards and some LCD displays with built-in USB hubs. --------------------------- Installation Instructions --------------------------- To install your Mac USB device, please follow these instructions. If you already have n3 software on your computer and are updating, please uninstall your old version first using the uninstall.pkg. 1. Turn on your Mac laptop. DO NOT connect the USB adapter to your Mac yet. If you have done so, please disconnect and reboot your PC. 2. On the CD, open the folder called 'For Macs' and locate the folder for your version of Mac OS X. To determine which version of Mac OS you have, go to the Apple menu in the top left corner of your screen and select "About this Mac". On the menu that appears immediately below the Mac OS X logo it will tell you the version. 3. Run the application Install.pkg to begin installation. Follow the onscreen instructions to install the software. When you have installed the software, you will be prompted to reboot- please do so. 4. After installing the software and rebooting, connect the USB adapter to your computer. If you have a desktop PC, please note the adapter cannot be used with the USB port on the keyboard or most USB hubs. It needs to be connected directly to the computer. Next go to the Apple menu in the top left corner of your screen and select "System Preferences". Inside System Preferences, double-click the Network icon. When you do so, a pop up menu should appear letting you know the computer has detected a new Network Port. Then you will see the network menu. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THESE NEXT STEPS ARE FOR OS 10.3 and 10.4 only (if you have OS 10.5 or 10.6, skip to step #8 below) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. In the Network menu, you will see two options near the top. One says Location, the other says Show. Set Location to 'Automatic'. Next to Show, click the drop-down menu and select the name of the device (it will be named Ethernet Adapter (enX), where X will be a number such as 1 or 2). 6. Click the APPLY button on the bottom right corner of the menu. You can now close this menu. 7. The final step is to launch the wireless utility program. The program is located in your Applications folder but should also be in your dock (the icon should say Ralink). If it is not in the dock, go to your hard drive icon on your desktop, and open the Applications folder, open the Ralink folder and double-click the program called USBWirelessUtility. When this loads click the 'Site Survey' tab and if your network does not appear click the Scan button. Then when you see the network to which you want to connect, click on it so it becomes highlighted and then click the Connect button. If you are prompted for encryption (password for the network) information, proceed to enter it. CONGRATULATIONS, you have connected to your access point and can now open a web browser and go online! You do not need to proceed any further in this instruction guide. ------------------------------------------------- FOR OS 10.5 Leopard and 10.6 Snow Leopard only ------------------------------------------------- 8. In the network menu, locate this device on the left side. For OS 10.5 it will be called 'USB Ethernet Adapter (en1)' or 'USB Eth... Adapter (en1)'. The number after 'en' in parentheses may vary.
